B. Wayne McGough, Jr. MD treats all types of orthopaedic sports injuries, including injuries of the shoulder, elbow and knee. His research interests include tendon and ligament biomechanics, preventing venous thromboembolism in orthopaedics and meniscal repairs.

A native of nearby Mt. Olive, AL and graduate of Gardendale High School, Dr. McGough graduated from the University of Alabama in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in Biology. He continued his education at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, graduating in 2005. He went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Following his orthopaedic training, Dr. McGough accepted a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI) in Birmingham, Alabama. He then joined Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in 2011.

Marcus A. Rothermich, MD is the newest member of our orthopaedic surgery team of physicians. Dr. Rothermich treats patients at our Trussville and Winfield locations.

Dr. Rothermich is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in sports medicine. Dr. Rothermich attended college at the University of Notre Dame and was roommates with Dr. Michael Ryan, also an orthopaedic surgeon at Andrews Sports Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia and served as the President of the Orthopaedic Society at the medical school.

He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery in St. Louis, Missouri at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in affiliation with Washington University in St. Louis. He also completed fellowship training in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute and Andrews Sports Medicine.

Dr. Rothermich has extensive training in both general orthopaedic surgery and complex sports medicine techniques. He has a particular interest in elbow reconstruction in overhead athletes, rotator cuff repairs, complex knee surgery and total joint replacement.

Dr. Rothermich believes that all patients, from recreational “weekend warriors” to elite athletes, deserve and should expect a high attention to detail and a shared decision making process to optimize their outcomes.

Prior to joining Andrews Sports Medicine, Dr. Rothermich was affiliated with South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. In that role, he proudly served as a consultant for the New York Mets as well as the team physician for various local organizations and high schools.

Dr. Rothermich is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), as well as the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), serving on the committee that writes the annual Self-Assessment Examination for the AOSSM. He also reviews grant applications for the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) and is a peer reviewer for multiple orthopedic journals. Dr. Rothermich has presented nationally and his research is published in several peer-reviewed medical journals and textbooks.

He is married to Alissa Rothermich, an Emmy-nominated television anchor and reporter. Alissa recently joined WIAT CBS 42 and co-anchors the CBS42 Morning News with Art Franklin. The Rothermichs lived in Birmingham during his fellowship training at Andrews Sports Medicine and realized very quickly that it was where they wanted to plant roots and raise their family. They have two children, Ben and Ella, and enjoy exploring Alabama with family hikes on the weekends. Dr. Rothermich is also an active recreational athlete, finishing several marathons against the advice of his wife and multiple orthopaedic providers. He could not be happier to be joining the Andrews family.

Dr. Bryant Poole graduated from the University of Alabama with a BS in Biology and a minor in English. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine where he also completed his internship and residency in General Surgery and Urology. Dr. Poole is an active member of the American Urological Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, and the Jefferson County Medical Society. His clinical interests include general urology, but particularly kidney stone disease, urologic cancers, and laparoscopic renal surgery.

Dr. Duggan graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine in 1984. He served as a resident in general surgery for two years and completed a three year residency in urology at UAB in 1989.

In addition to being a partner of Urology Centers of Alabama, Dr. Duggan has served as chairman of the Medical Center East Department of Surgery and as president of the Birmingham Urology Club.

Dr. Duggan is certified in urology by the American Board of Urology. He maintains membership with several national and local professional organizations including the American Urological Association, the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the Jefferson County Medical Society, and the Birmingham Urology Club. Currently Dr. Duggan is affiliated with Princeton,UAB, and Northwest Specialty Clinic. He is a native of Birmingham, Alabama.

Specializing in medical and surgical diseases of the anterior segment of the eye, Dr. McCurdy focuses on cataract, corneal transplants, and procedures for glaucoma.

He is respected by his peers for his unique one handed bevel-down cataract surgery techniques and has performed over 20,000 cataract surgeries in his medical career.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery as well as the American College of Eye Surgeons.

Dr. McCurdy graduated Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina in 1973. While at UNC, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. Upon graduation, he attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and graduated in 1977. He completed his residency in ophthalmology in 1981 at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. Following his residency, he practiced at Carolina Eye Associates in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Dr. McCurdy has been treating cataract surgery patients in Albertville and throughout Alabama since 1993.

Dr. Jeffrey Fuller is a fellowship-trained and board-certified ophthalmologist sub-specializing in medical and surgical treatment of conditions affecting the retina and vitreous. Dr. Fuller is the recipient of numerous awards and scientific grants, including one for the research of the Moxifloxacin project. His research has led to numerous publications, scientific presentations and scientific posters. Dr. Fuller has worked under mentors Peter Detloff, Ph.D., Robert Weiss, Ph.D., and Scott Woodward, Ph.D.

Dr. Fuller is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Medical Association of Alabama, the Southern Medical Association, the Iowa Eye Association and other professional organizations.

Dr. Fuller earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in Utah. He spent two years in Brazil completing missionary services. He then obtained his medical education at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. Dr. Fuller’s internship was completed at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair in Birmingham. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia, Department of Ophthalmology in Augusta. He also completed his fellowship training in vitreoretinal disease at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
